Piano Sextet

黎渺揚 Israel LAI

 

Israel LAI Miu-yeung is a pianist, organist, violinist, composer, arranger, conductor, translator and hyperpolyglot from Hong Kong. He is currently a final-year undergraduate music student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and previously an exchange student at Lund University, Sweden. He has studied the piano under the tutelage of Mr. Tony Tsang and Dr. Timothy Kwok Ka-ho, attaining an LTCL in Piano Recital with distinction, and the organ under Dr. Anne LAM Cheuk-bun. He has performed at masterclasses by Jeffrey Jacob, James Kirby and Dr. Eric Fung.

 

LAI is particularly interested in collaborative playing, having performed Mendelssohn's Piano Trio, Boëllmann's Piano Quartet, and Poulenc's Sextet, in addition to accompanying well-known works. While in Sweden, he took part in performances as a solo and collaborative pianist. His works have been premiered in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Italy. He will appear as a soloist playing Wilhelm Stenhammar's Second Piano Concerto in June 2018, and afterwards pursue a Master of Philosophy in Music Composition at the University of Oxford.

 

何彥衡 Jabril HO


 

Jabril HO is an active and passionate flute and guzheng performer in various chamber and orchestral ensembles. At the age of 5, HO began his musical training as a hobby, through which he developed his interest in Western classical music in his early school years as a solo flutist and orchestra member. He has performed in occasions in front of global audiences from Japan, Singapore, USA, Thailand, China, etc., and has given interviews on TVB and RTHK4 since 2008, at the age of 11. HO devoted his later school years to woodwind quintets and Chinese music ensembles, and led teams that were frequently awarded prizes in Hong Kong Schools’ Music Festival competitions. HO has been a recipient of academic scholarships for consecutive years for his studies in the HKAPA Junior course and his secondary school from 2011 to 2014. He attained his ATCL diploma in Flute Recital in 2011, and was admitted to the Department of Music, CUHK to pursue a bachelor degree in music in 2015. HO is currently studying flute performance under the tutelage of Ms. Megan STERLING starting in 2016.

 

鄭希諾 Samuel CHENG

 

Samuel is a final year voice major student at the CUHK music department, under the tutelage of Mr. Caleb Woo Wing-ching. His major performances in recent years include Wagner’s Götterdämmerung with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore with Musica Viva, Monteverdi’s Vespers 1610 with Singfest, Suppliant Woman at the Hong Kong Art Festival and Requiem HK with Yat Po Singers. Samuel is also an oboe player, having studied with Mr. Yiu Song-lam and Mr. Victor Tam Tze-fai and performed Mahler’s  Symphony No.1 and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite with the Chung Chi Orchestra from 2014 to 2017.

盧潤喬 Yuki LO

 

Lo Yun-kiu, Yuki is currently studying at the CUHK Department of Music as a year three student majoring in clarinet under the tutelage of Andrew Michael Simon, the principal clarinetist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She started learning her first instrument, the piano, at the age of 5, through which she gradually discovered her interest in music. Later, she developed a deeper interest in playing the clarinet: she started learning the instrument at the age of ten, and has been a member of various bands and orchestras since then. She passed the ABRSM Grade 8 in clarinet performance with distinction in 2013, and is now the principal clarinetist of the Hong Kong Doujin Philharmonia, as well as a member of Chamber Garden. She hopes to gain more experience from taking part in various performances.

馬嘉曦 MA Ka-hei

 

Ma Ka-hei is currently a year 1 music student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After she started learning the French horn at the age of six, she has studied under Mr. Cheng Hong-yip, Ms. Tam Heong-leng and currently Mr. Lee Siu-lam. She passed her DipABRSM in 2013.

 

As a horn player, Ma has won multiple awards at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival: apart from being the champion in the Tom Lee Music Prize for Brass Concerto in 2015, she won the second prize in the senior session of French horn solo competition for secondary school students in 2015 and the second prize in the Parsons Music Scholarship for Wind, Brass & Percussion Instruments in 2018. She was also shortlisted as Student of the Year by the South China Morning Post in 2016.

 

Ma has been a member in various local orchestras like the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra, the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. She has also been the principal horn player in the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Junior Symphony Orchestra of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

鄧愷璿 Hazalen TANG

Hazalen Tang is currently a year 2 music student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Under the coaching of Ms. Cheung On-ki Angel, she started cultivating her interest in playing the bassoon at the age of 6, and is now studying with Mr. Benjamin Moermond.

Tang has been an active participant at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, and was the champion in the senior category bassoon solo for secondary school students in 2014. She received her LTCL in Bassoon Recital in 2015.

Apart from solo performance, Tang is a member of the Chung Chi Orchestra and the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong.  She has also performed with local music groups such as the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and the Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra, and served in leadership roles in the Heep Yunn School Orchestra.
